Roy Contreras Instructor in Graphic Arts

With over three decades of experience in the field of design, Roy Contreras has cultivated an impressive career that blends creative innovation and professional excellence. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Contreras earned a degree in Design Communications with a minor in Packaging and Illustration, laying the foundation for a successful journey in the graphic design and visual communications industry.

For 28 years, Contreras worked as an Art Director at a local company, where he had the privilege of collaborating with high-profile clients, including Disney, Carnival Cruise Lines, Nickelodeon, and Hanna-Barbera, as well as many others. His career also allowed him to travel to Asia multiple times, working directly with factories to oversee product production—a hands-on experience that deepened his understanding of global manufacturing and design integration.

After retiring from his role as Art Director, Contreras shifted his focus to education. He is now a faculty member at South Plains College, where he enjoys mentoring the next generation of designers by combining his professional expertise with a passion for teaching.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Contreras celebrates 34 years of marriage, exemplifying dedication and partnership in both his personal and professional life.
