Program Coordinator and Guitar Instructor in Commercial Music, Creative Arts
Sonny Borba, Program Coordinator of the Commercial Music Program, has been playing music since early childhood. He received his first guitar at age 9 and has been playing ever since. He played in local bands throughout high school and college in Central Utah, and earned his music degree from Utah State University in 2002. His wide range of musical experience makes for a well-rounded approach in his playing and teaching. Sonny began teaching guitar in 1998, and in the Fall of 2007, made his move to Texas, where he began his career at South Plains College. Sonny met his wife Bethany soon after moving to Texas, and they married in 2009 and 2 short year later, in 2011, they welcomed Ethan and Gracie to their family. Together, Sonny and Bethany lead their church worship team every week in Lubbock, Texas. Sonny is also the lead guitarist and sound engineer for the local classic rock band groundFLOOR, who have been gigging together since 2008. Sonny’s love of learning and thirst for knowledge in all areas of life, are great qualities he works to instill in any student he has the privilege of teaching.
